Delays in Investigation of Tshwane Constables’ Deaths Frustrate South Africans

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has revealed that critical reports surrounding the tragic deaths of three constables—Cebekhulu Linda, Boipelo Senoge, and Keamogetswe Buys—found in the Hennops River in April 2025, remain incomplete, sparking public outrage.

In a statement released on September 29, 2025, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that the blood alcohol, toxicology, and histology reports, as well as the physical evidence investigation, are still pending.

Athlenda explained that the complexity of the case stems from the reliance on external specialists, emphasising that while the SAPS accident expert report has been finalised, it is inconclusive without the integration of other findings. She also stated that it is currently impossible to provide a timeline for when the investigation will be concluded.

The three constables disappeared on April 23, 2025, while traveling from the Free State to Limpopo in a white Volkswagen Polo. Initially treated as a kidnapping, the case took a devastating turn when their bodies were discovered in the Hennops River six days later, with their vehicle found several kilometers away. Two additional bodies were recovered during the search, including that of a police clerk.

South Africans have expressed frustration with the delays, criticising the prolonged process and lack of closure for the families of the deceased officers. The case has drawn significant attention, with many calling for greater accountability and efficiency in finalizing the investigation.
