SAHRC Launches Investigation Into Ngizwe Mchunu Over Alleged Anti-LGBTQIA+ Remarks Following Same-Sex Wedding Outrage
The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has officially initiated an investigation into popular media personality and former Ukhozi FM host Ngizwe Mchunu following a wave of public complaints about his recent controversial comments on social media.
The backlash began after Ngizwe posted a video reacting to the same-sex marriage of Simon Seun Nhlapo and Crosby Jodwana, which took place on 27 September 2025. In the now-viral video, Ngizwe reportedly expressed strong disapproval of the couple’s union, sparking widespread outrage online.
On Thursday, 2 October, the SAHRC released an official statement via its X (formerly Twitter) handle and website, confirming the receipt of multiple complaints from members of the public and civil society organisations regarding Ngizwe’s alleged inflammatory statements.
The statement emphasised that the complaints are being registered and assessed under the Commission’s Complaints Handling Procedure. The SAHRC assured the public that updates regarding the investigation’s outcomes would be shared in due course.
Social media users were quick to demand that the SAHRC take decisive action against Ngizwe, with many accusing him of being a repeat offender for making offensive and harmful remarks.
Ngizwe now joins other high-profile South Africans, such as Nota Baloyi and Gayton McKenzie, who have also faced scrutiny from the SAHRC for making controversial and inflammatory statements.
