Mthethwa Family Slams Government and ANC Over Lack of Formal Communication

Last Updated: October 2, 2025By

The family of late South African Ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, has expressed disappointment and hurt over the government’s and African National Congress’s (ANC) handling of the news of his passing.

Khulekani Mthethwa, Nathi’s brother, criticised the lack of formal communication from both the government and the ANC regarding his brother’s death.

Nathi Mthethwa was found deceased at the Hyatt Hotel in Paris on September 30, 2025, a day after he was reported missing. However, his family learned about his death through social media, with their father being informed by a brother-in-law.

Khulekani Mthethwa expressed his expectation that the ANC, given Nathi’s lifelong service to the party, would have taken the initiative to formally notify the family about his passing.

The family is still awaiting information on when Nathi Mthethwa’s remains will be repatriated. Khulekani Mthethwa’s criticism highlights the family’s desire for more respectful and timely communication from the authorities during this difficult time.

As the family waits for further information, they have expressed their disappointment with how the situation was handled.
