Cyan Boujee Condemns Victim-Blaming After Tragic Mamelodi Cousins’ Killing
In a heartfelt and emotional video, controversial socialite and DJ Cyan Boujee has spoken out about the brutal killing of two young cousins from her hometown of Mamelodi, Tshwane.
The two women were allegedly fatally shot following an argument between one of them and a man believed to be her boyfriend. The tragedy has sparked widespread discussion across South Africa, but some of the conversations online have taken a hurtful turn, prompting Cyan Boujee to defend the victims against negative and insensitive comments.
The socialite, who recently opened a new TikTok account after her previous one was banned, shared a video captioned: “Absolutely sad and concerning. Stop with the comments! This can happen to any woman close to your heart. #justicefortshiamoandbaleseng.”
In the video, Cyan Boujee expressed her frustration and heartbreak over the victim-blaming rhetoric surrounding the cousins’ deaths, particularly comments about their alleged party lifestyle. She emphasized that such judgments are not only irrelevant but also deeply harmful in the face of such a tragedy.
“Regardless of everything—the time, what they were wearing, what they were drinking, their age—it doesn’t matter. The fact is they didn’t come home. What are we doing about that? South Africa is no longer a safe country for women,” Cyan Boujee said, highlighting the pervasive dangers women face in the country. She passionately reminded viewers that such violence can happen to anyone, saying, “It can happen to your cousin, your friend, your girlfriend, your best friend, whoever it is. It can happen to any of us.”
Cyan Boujee also criticised those who sought to rationalize or justify the killings by questioning the actions of the victims or the circumstances of the incident. “Why are we justifying the situation? We cannot keep asking ourselves why the killer actually allowed it. It’s embarrassing to see the comments.
This is a sensitive topic. I feel so sad. Stop blaming women for their deaths. Stop normalising deaths,” she added, her voice filled with emotion.
The aunt of the cousins has also since dismissed the negative remarks surrounding the victims’ personal lives, reinforcing Cyan Boujee’s call for compassion
