Rachel Kolisi Faces Backlash for Retaining Ex-Husband Siya Kolisi’s Surname

Last Updated: October 30, 2025By

Recently, South African social media users sparked heated debates after media personality and entrepreneur Rachel Kolisi, ex-wife of Springbok captain Siya Kolisi.

This comes after she shared an Instagram video unveiling her magazine cover feature. While the post was meant to celebrate her achievement, it quickly became the center of controversy as online users began criticising her for continuing to use the Kolisi surname despite her divorce.

Although Rachel is still in the process of healing from the separation, many social media users questioned her decision to keep the surname instead of reverting to her maiden name. Some went as far as demanding that she drop the Kolisi name altogether.

The discussion highlighted how public figures often face scrutiny over personal choices, with some defending Rachel’s decision while others called it unnecessary.

Another one commented: “Focus on her strength, her achievement, a woman of worth, an individual who knows who she is, the surname is not a biggy.”

One wrote: “She knows very well that she will fade away without the Kolisi surname.”
