Tebogo Thobejane Speaks Out Against GBV After Mamelodi Shooting Tragedy

Last Updated: October 30, 2025By

Tebogo Thobejane, a former South African actress and social media personality, is urging South Africans to take action against gender-based violence (GBV).

This comes after two young cousins, Tshiamo Moramaga and Baleseng Moramaga, were brutally shot dead in Mamelodi East. The incident has left Tebogo deeply hurt, and she’s using her platform to advocate for change.

Tebogo, founder of The Botlhale Foundation, emphasizes that online activism is not enough to combat GBV. “Every time we lose another woman to GBV, it’s a reminder that silence protects the abuser, not the victim.

We can’t only hashtag and move on. We have to talk, teach and transform,” she said. Her foundation, initially focused on cyberbullying, now also tackles GBV, engaging with young people to address bullying and violence.

The South African Police Services (SAPS) have arrested 38-year-old Tebogo Mnisi, who allegedly shot the cousins after a heated argument with one of them, believed to be his girlfriend. Tebogo faces two counts of premeditated murder, attempted murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He has abandoned his bail application and will remain in custody until his next court appearance on January 19, 2026.

The community is outraged, with activists and residents demanding justice for the victims. “This tragedy is a stark reminder of the epidemic of GBV that continues to plague our nation,” said Themba Masango, secretary-general of NotInMyName International. The incident highlights the need for collective action to prevent such tragedies and ensure women’s safety.
