MaXhosa Africa Returns to Paris Fashion Week With Its First Official Runway Show

Last Updated: August 6, 2026By

MaXhosa Africa is set to make history this September as the South African luxury fashion house prepares to present its first official runway show at Paris Fashion Week Womenswear.

After five consecutive seasons as the only Africa-based brand featured on the official Paris Fashion Week calendar of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM), the label has now been approved to stage a full runway show—becoming the first South African fashion brand to earn a place on the official Ready-to-Wear Womenswear runway schedule.

The highly anticipated showcase will take place on 28 September 2026 at 5pm, opening the Spring/Summer 2027 edition of Paris Fashion Week and marking a defining moment in the brand’s 16-year journey.

For founder and creative director Laduma Ngxokolo, the milestone is about far more than international recognition. It represents years of building a brand rooted in African identity while earning its place among the world’s leading luxury fashion houses.

“For us, this Spring-Summer 2027 collection is about recognising how far we have come and being confident in where we are going. We have spent 16 years building a brand with a clear identity, a strong cultural foundation and the ability to stand on a global stage,” said Ngxokolo.

“This is not about proving that we belong. It is about owning our place and continuing to shape the future of African luxury on our own terms.”

The announcement marks a significant step forward for MaXhosa Africa, which has previously showcased its collections through presentation formats during Paris Fashion Week. This season, the brand graduates to a full-scale runway production on the official schedule—an achievement reserved for a select group of the world’s most influential fashion houses.

According to the brand, the Spring/Summer 2027 collection signals a new creative era. While MaXhosa Africa remains firmly rooted in African culture, the upcoming collection shifts towards a cleaner, more refined visual language that places greater emphasis on textile innovation, craftsmanship and contemporary design.

Rather than drawing on historical costume, the collection explores modern African identity through a global lens, with music, movement and performance woven into the presentation to reflect the creative energy shaping the continent today.

Beyond the creative achievement, the runway debut also represents an important commercial milestone. The brand says the collection has been designed not only to command attention on one of fashion’s biggest stages, but also to strengthen MaXhosa Africa’s position within the global luxury market.

From its beginnings as a knitwear label inspired by Xhosa heritage to becoming one of Africa’s most recognisable luxury fashion brands, MaXhosa Africa’s Paris Fashion Week runway debut marks another chapter in a story that continues to redefine African fashion on the world stage.
