‘I nearly died’: Lamiez Holworthy takes a break after health scare

Lamiez Holworthy is taking a break after revealing she nearly died following a health scare that saw her rushed to hospital on Sunday

In an emotional post shared on social media, the star revealed she was rushed to hospital on Sunday after a terrifying health scare that almost cost her life.

Seven minutes away from her next venue, with six more gigs left on her tour, her body gave in. “The past few days have been scary and painful beyond words but God showed up for me in ways that I cannot fathom nor explain,” she wrote.

Lamiez said she lost so much blood that doctors considered a blood transfusion. She revealed she “nearly tried twice in a span of hours.” The timing made it worse. She was in the middle of a run of shows but the scare forced her to rethink everything. “The biggest lesson that I learnt? To listen to my body and that there is no honour in working yourself to death. What good would all that hard work be if I were dead? But also, that I am Human and not a robot.”

She said her husband, parents, siblings, children and all her loved ones “deserve a happier and healthier version of Me.” She confirmed she is now back home and will be taking time off to heal and reconnect.

The post also addressed something that happened online. A picture of Lamiez was used to try and body-shame her. Her response was firm and honest. She said she wore that dress deliberately when she performed in Bloem. “To prove to them that I am normal — with cellulite and stretchmarks, that women in all shapes and sizes should embrace their bodies in whatever form. I gained weight and wasn’t going to try and hide it.”

She called out the timing, with Women’s Month not even over yet. “So to have a woman try and use it to belittle me is even more insane. Mean girls aren’t cool anymore and using a time where the person you are at war with alone is FIGHTING FOR HER LIFE IN HOSPITAL is low even for her.” Instead of fighting back, she chose prayer. “Please tell that woman I send her healing coz her case is a special one. I pray she finds not only herself but God too.” She ended with her faith front and center: “I’ll tell you this, Modimo o teng and ga nyake ka bana ba gae.”

The reaction online was immediate. Fans, fellow artists and media personalities sent prayers and support.

Many praised her for speaking openly about burnout in the entertainment industry, where the pressure to keep going no matter what is real.

Others thanked her for the body positivity message at a time when women are still torn down for how they look.

Lamiez closed her note by saying anyone else’s projections are “not for me to fight nor understand” and sent “love and light to you all.” For now, the stage, the radio and TV will have to wait. Healing comes first.
