2 Ways To Get Rid Of Dandruff At Home
I personally understand the struggle of having excessive dandruff that does not go away.
For the past years I have cut and regrown my hair trying to get rid of dandruff, changed shampoos, hair lotion and sprays but still it didn’t go away.
Now I just understand that sometimes we really cannot control everything that our hair throws at us, no matter what I use, I am always forced to unplait my hair because of the dandruff.
According to Sons, a blog that helps with health and wellness with advices from medical doctors, dandruff is caused by an overgrowth of a naturally occurring fungus called Malassezia, which everyone has on their scalp.
The fungus feeds on the natural oils on the scalp and breaks them down into fatty acids like oleic acid, to which some people are more sensitive. These acids can disrupt the skin barrier, allowing irritants and bacteria to enter.
That leads to inflammation and triggers an immune response, which in turn causes excessive skin-cell turnover. The cells then clump together and shed as visible flakes, creating a vicious cycle where more Malassezia produces more fatty acids, leading to even more growth, inflammation, and flaking.
However, I have managed to find ways to make sure it is controlled and limited:
Regular Wash Day
I have noticed that washing my hair more often reduces the dandruff so I tend to wash my hair with sunlight bar soap when showering at least 3 times a week. This helps me to keep my hair clean and fresh.
Coconut Oil
You can massage your scalp with pure coconut oil and let it sit for a few minutes or up to an hour before rinsing. It deeply hydrates the skin and improves the scalp microbiome.
