Crown Gospel Music Awards Reveal 2026 Nominees After 1,400 Entries
The countdown to the 19th 19th Icebolethu Crown Gospel Music Awards is officially underway, with more than 250 gospel artists earning nominations following a highly competitive selection process that attracted over 1,400 entries from across South Africa and the African continent.
The nominees were unveiled at a star-studded All White Party in Durban, attended by more than 300 gospel artists, media personalities, corporate leaders and social influencers, as the industry gathered to celebrate established icons, rising talent and the continued growth of African gospel music.
Among the names making their mark is rising star Ndumiso Zungu, who secured two nominations, including Best Itende and the coveted Best Song of the Year for his hit “Songena Ngemithandazo”.
The Umlazi Gospel Choir (The Original) also had a strong showing, earning three nominations, including a Song of the Year nomination for “Lalel’indaba”.
Ngcobo was another standout on the night, joining the fiercely contested Song of the Year category. The announcement was met with thunderous applause before Ngcobo delivered a powerful closing performance.
This year’s rigorous selection process saw more than 1,400 entries submitted from across South Africa and the wider African continent, with only 250 artists making it onto the final nominee list.
The diversity of the gospel music industry is also reflected in the Best Newcomer category, which features six artists from different provinces.
The Crown Gospel Music Awards continue to position themselves as a significant platform for gospel music in South Africa and across the continent. Icebolethu Group CEO Dr Nomfundo Mcoyi-Zondo addressed guests at the event, expressing her pride in the partnership and describing the collaboration as “more than business”, but a spiritual mission to honour and continue the legacy of the late Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule.
Executive Producer Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule also thanked the media and corporate partners for their continued investment in the awards and encouraged gospel music lovers to support the next phase of the event.
“The nominees are now official. We encourage the public and gospel music lovers to buy their tickets, dress up and come rejoice in His presence,” Nkambule said.
The 19th Crown Gospel Music Awards will take place on 15 November 2026 at the ICC Durban. Tickets are available through Webtickets.
